Microsoft has unveiled an iPhone app that lets you open, create and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on the go. But here’s the catch: You have to be a subscriber to its productivity suite, Office 365.
Office 365 costs $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month.
Office Mobile lets you access files that are stored on SharePoint, SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro. It includes a “Recent Documents” panel so you can find documents you were working on recently at your computer. The app also lets you view Microsoft Office documents attached to emails.
In addition, Office Mobile provides support for SmartArt graphics, shapes, animations and charts. And it lets you continue editing Office documents you start on your desktop computer.
The app is available now in the United States and is expected to be released overseas next week. It was designed specifically for the iPhone 5, but it can also be used on other iPhones starting with 4 as well as iPads and iPad Minis.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/office-mobile-for-office-365/id541164041.
Readers, are you craving an Office iPad app? I know I am.
